Weekly Class Updates

Year 3 Tennis

During the Autumn term, Y3 children have had fortnightly tennis sessions which were run by Getset4tennis. They have learnt how to use forehand, backhand, serving and rallies.

Year 3 Advent Retreat Day

In November, Y3 had an RE retreat day which took place in the activity studio. They learnt all about the Jesse tree and enjoyed making symbols for each story. They worked together to make a class advent display which will be explored each day in Advent during class worship times.

Odd Socks Day

St Anthony’s School took part in ‘Odd Socks Day’ as part of anti-bullying week.  It is designed to be a fun opportunity to encourage people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique!

Forest School

Y3 children were really lucky to have 6 sessions of forest school in the Autumn term. This involved activities including den building, circle games, knot tying, bug hunts and many more!

Dog’s Trust

Darcy from Dog’s Trust came back to visit our school to remind us how to stay safe around dogs.

Watford Football Club

In September, Y3 enjoyed a visit to Vicarage Road football stadium to take part in a ‘Healthy body, Healthy Mind’ workshop. They learnt all about healthy eating and the importance of exercise. They also had a tour of the stadium which was very exciting!

Chiltern Open Air Museum

The children had a fantastic school trip to Chiltern Open Air Museum. They enjoyed some great activites and learnt some new skills such as: lighting a fire with flint, making butter from cream, grinding wheat to make flour, making clay pots, painting with charcoal and animal fat and archery. It was a great trip and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Reveley Lodge

In Geography, the children have been learning about how Watford has changed over the years. Both classes were fortunate enough to visit Reveley Lodge in Bushey where they learnt about how Victorians lived. They had the opportunity to wash and dry clothes, experience Victorian school, take a tour around a Victorian house and even have afternoon tea. The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit.

Our Science Experiment

In Science, the children have been learning about Scientists and investigations. In this experiment we made fireworks as a way to investigate density. Density is a measure of how much something weighs (it’s mass) by how much space it takes up (it’s volume).

Oil and water don’t mix. Oil is also less dense than water, which causes the oil to float on top of the water, creating two distinct layers.

Liquid food colouring is water-based, which is why it doesn’t mix with the oil even when you stir it. Instead the food colouring breaks up into small droplets which become temporarily suspended (floating) within the oil. These droplets are denser than the oil (due to their water content), and so they gradually fall though the oil and enter the water.

Our Mass for St Peter and St Paul

On 29th June 2023, Year 3 celebrated a mass for the feast day of St Peter and St Paul. The children helped to read different parts of the mass and Father Alex spoke to the children about Communion during his homily.
