Every child will have tasks to do out of school hours that will involve varying degrees of adult involvement.
Reading with your child is a requirement across the school starting in Nursery. You will be required to follow and support each class’ reading program put in place by each teacher. Making sure reading is fun and relaxing is still very important and we encourage you to get involved in your children’s reading even when they are fluent. Continue to enjoy and discuss books together; share a bed time story, read the newspaper or visit the library. If your child sees you taking pleasure from reading and valuing reading they are more likely to pick up a book themselves! Once a month there is a reading morning where you can come into school and read with your child in a relaxed environment. Homework is set regularly by teachers to support and reinforce the learning taking place in school. We encourage children to develop positive homework routines and take pride in completing their tasks.
Alongside any homework set by their teacher, all children are expected to read regularly and practise their times tables. Reading helps children develop their vocabulary, fluency and comprehension, while times-table practice builds confidence and supports their wider mathematical learning.
We greatly appreciate parents and carers supporting children with these routines at home and helping them to make homework a positive part of their learning.
