RHE is taught alongside PSHEE and takes a spiral approach to learning, St Anthony’s uses the award winning Ten Ten Life to the Full programme of study which includes teaching about personal health, physical and emotional well-being, strong emotions, private parts of the body, personal relationships, family structures, trusted adults, growing bodies, puberty, periods, life cycles, the dangers of social media, where babies come from, an understanding of the Common Good and living in the wider world.
The entire teaching is underpinned with a Christian faith understanding that our deepest identity is as a child of God – created, chosen and loved by God. The programme is fully inclusive of all pupils and their families.
Our school’s RHE programme of study has three themes:
• Created to love others – this explores an individual’s relationships with others and shows an understanding of the importance of valuing and understanding oneself as the basis for personal relationships.
• God is love – We are created out of love and for love. The command to love is the basis of all Christian morality.
• Created to live in community – local, national & global (this explores the individual’s relationships with the wider world)
During the academic year 2020-2021, it is a statutory requirement that all schools in England and Wales teach Relationship and Health Education as a fundamental part of the curriculum.
‘St Anthony’s use both TenTen and Jigsaw to deliver PSHEE/RHE lessons which are amended and adapted to meet the Catholic ethos of the school and the needs of their school community’- Herts Wellbeing Advisor.
